Spotify has been fined by the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection (IMY) a total of SEK 58 million (equivalent to approx. 5.4 million) as it has been found to have been in breach of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which entered into force in 2018. IMY found the failings during an audit of how Spotify was handling user's personal data, particualrly around how it informs users that they have the ability to access their data and that Spotify only releases the data when individuals request it.
