Central banks launching their own digital currencies

I've watched several clips about cryptocurrencies including the one Vox did but I still can't wrap my head around how it works and what determines its value. With the kind of money and popularity of cryptocurrencies though, it's only a matter of time before banks get in on it.

With the trend that the digital currency is making today, I'm actually not surprised that banks are planning on creating their own digital money. Their are downsides and positive sides in both the customers and the banks. For customers they have the banks to atleast back it up in case there's fraud that might happen. For banks, the risk of having their customers use these currencies is too high than using the actual money. Well I guess we should all accept the risk we are taking in using these currencies. I just hope that someone will create a more tighten security for the usage of these digital money.

It's like that old saying - if you can't beat them, join them. It was just a matter of time. I'm curious how will banks handle decentralization and privacy.
