A circular economy could fight food waste, but why not just avoid waste in the first place?

It seems logical to fall back on a circular economy to fight food waste. I mean, it really isn't waste if it's put to good use when it isn't consumed, but wouldn't it simply be better to more efficiently manage our food supply and consumption in the first place?

I agree that avoiding, or at least minimizing waste is the key. The sheer amount of wasted food that gets thrown to the trash really boggles the mind, if we can find a way to spread it to the people who go hungry it would be wonderful.
