The decline of human violence

Given how crazy the news these days can be, it's so easy to think that the sky is falling and there's going to be a zombie apocalypse tomorrow. However, I think this is the third or fourth article I've come across recently that talks about how even though things look bleak now, we're actually the most peaceful we've ever been.

I've read that too!

And when you think about it, it really could be true. We don't have any big wars going on. There are some tensions, some conflicts and some long lasting wars, but all of that is going on for ages.

We might have a feeling world is currently ugly place to live, but that is mostly because we have great source of information we couldn't see in a past. Thirty years ago we weren't able to know what's going on in neighborhood unless it was something really really big, today we read about every single, even the smallest, incident that happens all around the world. I sometimes wonder if maybe internet and availability of information is what is doing this age more peaceful than any other.

The nations are certainly a lot more diplomatic nowadays, at least on the surface. I think a factor to the slight decline in violence is the fact that we now have better access to information about other cultures, religion and belief systems. Things like the internet, accesibility of books, and other sources of info have been instrumental to letting people know that we can be different and yet stay the same.

I know some may not agree, but even psychedelics could possibly be a big influence in increasing empathy.

The chances of having another world war is certainly possible, but  I surely hope that we can be diplomatic about solving our differences.

Every single person I know who is using psychedelics, and I know a lot of them, is into conspiracy theories, so yeah...no, I highly doubt that empathy has anything to do with that. My guess would be that better access to information has the key role as we are raising awareness about topics we couldn't know about before internet.

I guess you are just exposed to the Eddie Bravo types and that's cool as well.

There's a saying "The poor you will always have with you."  But now we can see strategies...ome countries that are now rich were poor just a few decades ago although the neighboring country may be still poor. So, things are changing. We are not informed only for media. Media does not tell us how the world is changing, it tells us where the world is going wrong.

Violence will unfortunately still be a possiblilty, but I agree that it should be lessened now, especially that the world is now smaller due to technology.
