The impact of cities on biodiversity

I was having coffee with a couple of friends the other day and were talking about how growing up, I used to see dragonflies every summer vacation. I don't think I've seen one in the past 10 years. And I live in the same area! A lot of our neighbors (including us) have converted vacant spaces and gardens to home extensions or garage space. It kind of made us sad that kids these days are missing out on some of the things that gave us great happiness when we were younger. Like scaring each other with bugs. Or running around trying to catch dragonflies.
