When considering traditional brick facades, we usually conjure up images of solidity and robustness. Solid ceramic blocks, recognized for their ability to withstand compression and offer strength and durability to structures, are materials frequently used in architecture. However, innovation in construction materials has made space for solutions that combine tradition and modernity, transforming the use of materials such as brick.

A large suburban Philadelphia county has joined dozens of other local governments around the country in suing the oil industry, asserting that major oil producers systematically deceived the public about their role in accelerating global warming. Bucks County's lawsuit against a half dozen oil companies blames the oil industry for more frequent and intense storms — including one last summer that killed seven people there — flooding, saltwater intrusion, extreme heat "and other devastating climate change impacts" from the burning of fossil fuels.

NEW DELHI: Blue whales, the largest living animals, have recovered from being hunted, only to face the growing challenges from global warming and other human threats like underwater noise, pollution and disrupted food sources, according to a new stocktake of their population.Researchers found the greatest genetic differences among the blue whale populations in the eastern Pacific, Antarctic subspecies and the pygmy subspecies of the eastern Indian and western Pacific.Blue whales average about 27 metres in length.Natural selection could be one of the reasons behind these differences, they said."Each of these groups need to be conserved to maintain biodiversity in the species, and there are indications that natural selection in different environments contributed to driving genetic differences between the high-level groups," said Catherine Attard, College of Science and Engineering, Flinders University, Australia.
