The wine industry is no stranger to climate change. Vineyards have been facing the brunt of it for decades. It hasn't been all bad either, as warming has opened up new growing regions. But vignerons, or grape growers, in traditional areas have also been forced to innovate and adapt ahead of other agricultural producers.

The Biden administration will be allocating more than $120 million to tribal governments to fight the impacts of climate change, the Department of the Interior announced Thursday. The funding is designed to help tribal nations adapt to climate threats, including relocating infrastructure. Indigenous peoples in the U.are among the communities most affected by severe climate-related environmental threats, which have already negatively impacted water resources, ecosystems and traditional food sources in Native communities in every corner of the U.''As these communities face the increasing threat of rising seas, coastal erosion, storm surges, raging wildfires and devastation from other extreme weather events, our focus must be on bolstering climate resilience, addressing this reality with the urgency it demands, and ensuring that tribal leaders have the resources to prepare and keep their people safe is a cornerstone of this administration,'' Interior Secretary Deb Haaland, a member of the Pueblo of Laguna, said in a Wednesday press briefing.

2023 was the hottest year on record. Not only the hottest since U.meteorological recordkeeping began in 1850, but according to Scientific American, 2023 was also "the hottest temperature that our planet has experienced in something like 125,000 years."[1]. "The risk of extreme events is growing, and they're affecting every corner of the world." In addition to high temperatures, California experienced historically heavy rainfall that led to floods, landslides, and power outages in previously drought-plagued areas.[February through April brought severe tornados and a "bomb cyclone," where winds reached hurricane-level speeds.[By early April of 2023, almost as many lives had been lost to tornados as in an entire year.[May and June brought Canadian wildfires that spread hazardous smoke across much of the United States as well,[with atmospheric plumes reaching as far as northern Spain.[July through September saw record heat waves, and October through December brought high temperatures, as well as heavy rains, flooding, and power outages.[8].
