Regulation Shaping the mHealth Apps Pipeline
A cross-sectional analysis published in Cureus in July 2026 counted 1,430 AI and machine-learning enabled devices authorised by the FDA between September 1995 and December 2025, including 331 in 2025 alone.
Radiology accounted for 1,094 of those authorisations, or 76.5%, and the three most represented review panels covered 90.6% of the total. Pathology had nine devices, microbiology six. The Imaging Wire’s separate tally of the same FDA list reported 1,451 authorisations through end-2025.

Consumer health apps sit almost entirely outside that count. They ship as wellness products rather than cleared devices, which caps how much of the 2034 forecast can come from reimbursed clinical use. That divide is the starting point of Quantumrun’s healthcare revolution forecast and its wider future of health series.
